The Wisdom of Mingo

DID YOU KNOW

In August 1756, Boone wed Rebecca Bryan, and the couple set up stakes in the Yadkin Valley. Over a 24-year period, the couple would have 10 children together. At first Boone found himself content with what he described as the perfect ingredients to a happy life: "A good gun, a good horse and a good wife." But adventure stories Boone had heard from a teamster while on march ignited Boone's interest in exploring the American frontier. Source: biography.com

Bill Tilghman and the Outlaws with Darby Hinton as Cole Younger

The new film from One-Eyed Horse Productions is called 'Bill Tilghman and the Outlaws', and it's now in post production. Written by Dan Searles and directed by Wayne Shipley, this light-hearted, action packed western is about what happens when a movie production company in the early 1900s tries to make a motion picture about a bank robbery–with the help of real lawmen and real outlaws.

Have you seen the 5-part Disney 'Davy Crockett' TV series?

Davy Crockett is a five-part serial which aired on ABC from 1954–1955 in one-hour episodes, on the Disneyland series. The series stars Fess Parker as real-life frontiersman Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as his friend, George Russel.

The first three episodes of the serial were edited together as the theatrical film Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier (1955) and rebroadcast in color in the 1960s, when the Disney program went to NBC. This series and film are known for the catchy theme song, "The Ballad of Davy Crockett". It was filmed in color at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the Mountain Farm Museum adjacent to the visitor center at Oconaluftee, near Qualla Reservation's entrance and Janss Conejo Ranch, California.

The final two episodes were edited together as the theatrical film Davy Crockett and the River Pirates (1956). It was filmed in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois and other areas of the country.

Walt Disney Home Video released the two theatrical films on DVD as Davy Crocket - Two Movie Set, on September 7, 2004.

THE COWBOY WAY: Yes Ma'am/No Ma'am, Yes Sir/No Sir, Please/Thank you.

We say goodbye to Clint Walker...

We are sad to say goodbye to Clint Walker "Cheyenne Bodie for 8 seasons" who passed away yesterday. Walker stood 6 feet, 6 inches tall and was cast as Cheyenne Bodie, a roaming cowboy hero in the post-American Civil War era. His casting was announced in June 1955. We remember the many movies he was in. Our sympathies go out to family & friends of Clint Walker. Clint Walker May 30, 1927 – May 21, 2018
